Your first Kailash journey? Here’s what to expect
Every year, we at Juniper Outdoor Expeditions help hundreds of pilgrims take part in the sacred Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, one of the most meaningful spiritual journeys on earth. Whether you have dreamt of it for years or are preparing for your first visit, our purpose is simple: we manage every detail so you can focus on the experience itself.
We handle permits, visas, travel coordination, acclimatisation, and local arrangements with our trusted partners in Nepal and Tibet. You will travel with experienced guides who know each pass, culture, and safety measure with confidence and care.

Standing at 6,638 meters, Mount Kailash is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Beside it lies Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m), whose pure waters are said to cleanse the soul. The journey combines faith, nature, and endurance in a way few experiences can.
We see this Yatra as a path of preparation and reflection. From helping you train for altitude to arranging your rituals at the lake, Juniper ensures that your experience remains safe, supported, and deeply personal.

Each Kailash Mansarovar Route offers different scenery, access, and duration. We help you choose what suits you best.
This is the most popular route. You start in Kathmandu, cross into Tibet at Rasuwagadhi-Kerung, then travel through Saga and Paryang to Manasarovar.
This shorter route uses flights and road travel. You fly to Simikot, then take a helicopter to Hilsa near the Tibet border.
Managed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India, this route runs through Lipulekh in Uttarakhand and Nathula in Sikkim.
This route introduces a quick flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, dramatically reducing road travel time. After arrival, pilgrims spend three days acclimatizing in the high-altitude environment of Lukla before continuing their journey towards Kailash.
You need both a Kailash Mansarovar Permit and a Chinese Visa, and we arrange them completely on your behalf.
Our team handles every document, embassy coordination, and cross-border clearance. We also secure Restricted Area Permits for Simikot or Rasuwagadhi if required.
Transparency is our policy. Your Kailash Mansarovar Package Cost depends on your route, duration, and inclusions.
Included: Accommodation, meals, visa and permit fees, transport, guide, oxygen cylinder, and medical backup.
Excluded: Travel insurance, personal expenses, tips, and optional rituals at the lake.
Final prices may vary slightly due to flight schedules or currency changes. We confirm costs before booking.
The Kailash Yatra Difficulty lies in the altitude, not in trekking skill. Roads are motorable, and our guides monitor your health daily.
We help you follow a four-week pre-trip walking plan for stamina. Many pilgrims also join short Himalayan treks such as the Chandrashila Challenge or Tarsar Lake Trek for altitude readiness.
Each group travels with trained staff carrying medical kits, oxygen cylinders, and satellite phones. Comprehensive travel insurance that covers high-altitude evacuation is mandatory and arranged through our partners.
We plan gradual elevation gain with rest days. Oxygen saturation is checked daily, and our team is trained for emergency evacuations.

The Yatra operates from May to October.
Travel in May–June or September–October gives the best weather balance.
Festival Season
The Saga Dawa Festival (around May–June) celebrates Buddha’s enlightenment and brings an atmosphere of collective devotion. The Full Moon Yatra is special for its still reflections on Lake Manasarovar.

We send you a detailed checklist before departure. Focus on light, layered, and warm clothing.
Essentials

Documents
Our staff checks documents at every border point to avoid delays.

The Kailash Parikrama is a three-day, 52 km circuit starting and ending at Darchen. The second day crosses Dolma-La Pass (5,630 m), the highest point of the Yatra. Pony and porter support are available if needed.
Pilgrims often take a holy dip or meditate near the lake, believed to purify past karma. We guide each ritual safely, considering altitude and weather.
Ashtapad remains closed to visitors under Chinese rules. Instead, we offer extended time at Yam Dwar and Manasarovar shore for prayers and meditation.
We provide guesthouses and tented stays with clean, vegetarian, high-energy meals. Every camp includes basic medical facilities and heating arrangements.
Mobile networks are weak throughout Tibet. Our team carries satellite communication devices for emergency use and group coordination.
We brief travellers on Tibetan customs: greet locals with “Tashi Delek,” dress modestly, and maintain quiet during prayer. Following our Happiness Trail values, we ensure no litter and reduce single-use plastic throughout the Yatra.
Planning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra alone can be confusing. We take care of everything so you can focus on your purpose.

The cost varies by route and duration. On average, it ranges from ₹4-4.2 lakh for the MEA route to ₹5-8 lakh for the helicopter route. We confirm final pricing before booking to include permits, lodging, and logistics.
It’s moderately challenging because of the altitude, not the terrain. With our acclimatisation schedule, medical checks, and experienced guides, first-time pilgrims complete it comfortably.
The Kerung overland route is ideal for gradual altitude gain and scenic travel. If you prefer a shorter journey or less road time, the Simikot–Hilsa helicopter route works best.
The Yatra season runs from May to October. The most reliable months are May–June and September–October when the weather is clearer and road conditions remain stable.
